It’s starting to look like Robert Pattinson is going to be our next Bruce Wayne. According to Variety, the actor is in the final stages of negotiations to star in Matt Reeves’ upcoming movie The Batman as the titular superhero. While not yet officially signed the deal, Pattinson is described as “the top choice, and it’s expected to close shortly.” Warner Bros. provided no comment, lending further credence to the rumor. If the reports are accurate, Pattinson will soon be officially signed on.

The Batman has been in production for many years. At the start, the plan was for Ben Affleck to star in the film in addition to directing. By 2017, he had withdrawn from the director’s chair, and he finally left the project completely at the start of 2019. With Matt Reeves taking over directing duties, a new Batman actor also needed to be found, leading to vast speculation as to just who it could be. Pattinson’s name often came up as a rumored possibility, and it turns out those predictions may have been dead-on.

Pattinson has made a name for himself by appearing in popular film franchises like the Harry Potter movies and The Twilight Saga. His role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight films, in particular, brought him great worldwide fame, making him one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood in the process.

Still, Pattinson has been trying to find some new iconic roles since last appearing as Edward in the 2012 movie The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. His journey has seen him appear in a plethora of roles, including parts in The RoverLifeGood Time, and Damsel. He will next appear in The Lighthouse, which premieres this month at the Cannes Film Festival.

Physically, Pattinson does look like a young Bruce Wayne, even if he may need to beef up a little more for the role. Should he get the part, hopefully, he will do the Dark Knight proud.
