New ‘Halloween’ Sequel Set for October 2020 Release

Halloween 2018

In 2018, Michael Myers and Laurie Strode both returned to theaters for an all new Halloween movie from director David Gordon Green. Although Michael seemed to meet a grisly end in the conclusion of the movie – as he always does – the door was left open for Blumhouse to produce a sequel. Now, Collider is reporting the news about an official sequel soon going into production, with a targeted release date for Oct. 16, 2020.

Of course, news of a new Halloween movie isn’t surprising at all. Pulling in about $255 million against a $10 million budget has made the 2018 sequel the highest-grossing slasher movie of all time. With so much money on the table left to be made, it seemed to be just a matter of time until the next installment hit theaters. Reportedly, the project will officially begin shooting after Labor Day to prepare for its release in the fall of next year.

The talent involved have yet to sign official deals, though the surviving members of the strode family – Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis), Karen (Judy Greer), and Allyson (Andi Matichak) are all expected to return. David Gordon Green also reportedly wrote the script and is expected to be back in the director’s chair as well. No word on if Danny McBride also contributed to the screenplay this time around, though he will be on board as an executive producer.

As the announcement has only been made for the film’s production, there are no details yet about the plot. We can only assume it will reveal Michael Myers survived his implied death in the end of 2018’s Halloween, ready to return to Haddonfield to massacre its residents on Halloween night once again. More information is likely to be forthcoming over the summer, so stay tuned.
