Lord Zedd Voice Actor Robert Axelrod Dies at 70

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers star and accomplished actor, rock musician, and voiceover artist Robert Axelrod has passed away at the age of 70. Working consistently as an actor since the ’70s, Axelrod is a veteran in the field with dozens of movie and TV credits to his name. Perhaps his most memorable character of all, however, is that of Lord Zedd on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, along the the monster-make Finster on the same series.

Also a rock musician and a film and TV actor, Axelrod was certainly a voice actor at heart. Over the course of his lifetime, Axelrod brought life to so many amazing characters, each with their own unique voices. Aside from playing almost countless voice roles for a variety of different characters, Axelrod also voiced Rico on Robotech, Blue Falcon on Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds, Wizardmon on Digimon, and Movor on Transformers: Robots in Disguise. He also played Brainy Smurf in the animated movie The Smurfs and the Magic Flute. 

On TV, Axelrod could also be seen in roles on shows including Star Trek: VoyagerThe Neighbors, and Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! An appearance on Family Matters had him playing a Paul McCartney lookalike in another memorable performance. Axelrod has also appeared in feature films like Death Wish 4: The CrackdownThe Blob, and Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie. Additionally, he also played a homeless man in Michael Jackson’s music video for “Stranger in Moscow.”

Lord Zedd is still a big part of Power Rangers lore, as the character is playable in the recent fighting game from the franchise Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid. Anyone who saw Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in the ’90s will also definitely never forget the character, based on his bizarre look and unique voice.
