According to the rumor mill, Capcom is hard at work developing a remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, and the project is farther along in development than you might think. Recently, the YouTube channel SpawnWave claims insider knowledge of the project and says the game is coming along very nicely for a planned launch in 2020. Eurogamer has since done some digging of their own, with their own sources corroborating the report.
Of course, without an official confirmation from Capcom, and no photo or video evidence, it’s best to take these reports at face value at this time. Still, the news of Capcom remaking the classic Resident Evil sequel would not be at all surprising. When the company released the Resident Evil 2 remake earlier this year, it was met with incredible success, selling over 4.7 million copies since launch. By far, the remake was more popular than any other game from the franchise to be released in years, so it’s logical Capcom would be willing to go back to the well to bring back other classic Resident Evil titles.
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis lets players control Jill Valentine, a returning protagonist from the original game. It follows her escape from Raccoon City after the deadly T-virus has ravaged the city. The game is also notable for its titular villain, Nemesis – a lab-created creature intent on destroying every member of Valentine’s S.T.A.R.S. group. Those of us who’ve played the game will never forget the way he utters, “S.T.A.R.S.!” and the phrase better be included in the rumored remake.
If these rumors of a Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake are accurate, then we’ll hopefully find out more information soon. For now, you can check out the trailer for Resident Evil 2 below!
