Lucasfilm has announced a massive project wherein a number of writers from all different genres will explore brand new Star Wars stories through multiple mediums such as adult and young adult novels, kids’ books, and comics. This new era, previously referred to as Project Luminous, is Star Wars: The High Republic.
Within the Star Wars timeline, The High Republic is set 200 years before the events of the earliest set Star Wars film, The Phantom Menace, when the Jedi Order are at its crowning point. Since The High Republic is set so distant from the already established Star Wars canon, writers will have the freedom to stretch and build lore and create new stories and characters without the worry of contradicting with current canon.
Star Wars: The High Republic will bring together fan-favorite authors Claudia Gray (Master & Apprentice, Star Wars: Lost Stars), Justina Ireland (Star Wars: Spark of the Resistance), Daniel José Older (Star Wars: Last Shot), Cavan Scott (Dooku: Jedi Lost, Star Wars Adventures), and Charles Soule (Star Wars: Lando, Star Wars comic relaunch). Debuting at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim in August 2020, the massively interconnected narrative of Star Wars: The High Republic: Light of the Jedi will begin, spread across various mediums.

When everything kicks off in August, the first wave of titles will include:
- Star Wars: The High Republic: Into The Light, a young adult novel from Claudia Gray and published by Disney Lucasfilm Press.
- Star Wars: The High Republic: A Test of Courage, a middle-grade novel from Justina Ireland and published by Disney Lucasfilm Press.
- Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures, a comic book series from Daniel José Older and published by IDW Publishing.
- Star Wars: The High Republic, a comic book series from Cavan Scott and published by Marvel.
- Star Wars: The High Republic: Light of the Jedi, an adult novel from Charles Soule and published by Del Rey.
The novels listed are all available to pre-order on Amazon, while the comic book series will see their first issues hit comic book stores later this year.
The idea of a carefully planned, massively-cohesive narrative in Star Wars has me all kinds of excited. It seems like Lucasfilm is putting in the work and planning out their future of Star Wars, and not jumping in feet first. I can’t wait to see what The High Republic has in store.
