Courtesy of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, The Invisible Man is now available on Blu-ray. Directed and written by Leigh Whannell, the film turned out to be a surprise hit for Universal and Blumhouse, finding much better success than when Universal tried to reboot The Mummy with Tom Cruise. It would find great earnings at the box office and earned nearly universal praise with viewers and critics – and that’s always especially impressive for a horror movies, which generally don’t get the praise they deserve.
Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale) stars in The Invisible Man as a scientist who breaks free from her abusive relationship, only for her ex to supposedly commit suicide. She suspects his death to be a hoax, and things go from bad to worse quickly when a literally invisible man goes after her. Well-acted and featuring a compelling and riveting story, The Invisible Man is much darker than other interpretations of the story we’ve seen in years past, and some might say it’s the best one yet. It’s a fantastic film, at least that seems to be the consensus, but is The Invisible Man worth owning on Blu-ray?
Usually, what most drives my desire to own any particular film on Blu-ray relies on what kinds of special features the home video release has to offer. Fortunately, I couldn’t be more satisfied with Universal’s Blu-ray release of The Invisible Man. This thing is packed with bonuses for fans of the film to take in, enhancing the experience that much more. This includes a feature commentary with Whannell, who provides a lot of behind-the-scenes insight into the making of the hit film. Interesting deleted scenes are also featured, along with a handful of behind-the-scenes videos and featurettes.
If you’re a fan of horror (and especially the classic Universal Monsters), you won’t want to miss this new take on The Invisible Man. The hype is accurate on this one, as the film is among the best horror movies to arrive in recent years. I also recommend the Blu-ray (or your preferred physical format) for those who’ve seen it and enjoyed it as well, as it’s a good flick that will be fun to revisit from time to time, and the excellent bonuses have that much more to offer.
The Invisible Man is now available on Blu-ray, DVD, 4K Ultra HD, and VOD.
