Could we see actually Friday the 13th killer Jason Voorhees appear in Dead by Daylight? Apparently, it’s not as impossible as it might seem. This week, Dead by Daylight developers Behaviour Interactive revealed the newest DLC for the popular multiplayer game, announcing with a new trailer that Pyramid Head and Cheryl Mason of Silent Hill would be a part of the game in June.
Continuously, Behavious has added new horror licenses to Dead by Daylight to keep the game fresh, bringing in familiar characters and locations. Those who’ve been playing for a while will know that Pyramid Head will be in good company in Dead by Daylight, joining other famous horror genre characters like Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, Michael Myers, Ghostface, and others. With so many big names already featured, the most notable name that’s missing is Jason, though Friday the 13th fans will probably have an idea as to why.

At this time, the rights to Jason and the Friday the 13th name still have yet to be finally decided upon in a court of law. As we await the final ruling, nothing new can happen with Friday the 13th. Not only does that mean no new movies can be made anytime, but it also means Jason can’t be showing up in any video games either, despite his long history of doing so in various titles. Still, that hasn’t stopped many Dead by Daylight players from wishing for a Friday the 13th DLC, and for what it’s worth, there’s nothing to stop it from happening on Behaviour’s end.
“Jason has a standing invitation to Dead by Daylight,” game director Mathieu Côté tells ComicBook.com. “Whenever he’s ready, whenever he’s done with whatever he’s got going on in his life right now, he can come in. He’s going to be welcomed with open arms.”
To be clear here, Côté isn’t saying that any kind of negotiations have begun about utilizing the Friday the 13th license for Dead by Daylight. Because of the lawsuit, it’s not even clear right now who would need to be involved in these discussions. It’s just worth pointing out that the ball is now in Jason’s court, and if those in charge of the rights are looking to get Jason further out there into the video game world in 2020, it’s good to know that there’s already a new place for him to go.

Of course, apart from the lawsuit, the other major obstacle with including Jason in Dead by Daylight would have to be Friday the 13th: The Game. After all, if Jason has his own game, why would our favorite campground killer want to go elsewhere? Simply put, the rights-holders might intend to make more money with a video game that is exclusively Friday the 13th, perhaps by adding new content to the official game in a bid to extend the life cycle of the asymmetrical multiplayer title.
The only caveat there is it has previously been suggested by publisher Gun Media that all new content for the game has ceased, and that we shouldn’t expect anything more from the Dead by Daylight competitor. If that remains the case after the legal battle concludes for good, then it would seem there is no good reason for him not to also show up in Dead by Daylight. As fun as Friday the 13th: The Game might be, there’s no denying that it’d be fun to see Jason appear in other titles as well. After all, he did very well in the Mortal Kombat universe…
In any case, let’s just hope this infamous lawsuit ends very quickly. What we can all agree on is that Jason needs to come back soon in one way or another. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
