It’s a very sad day today as word has come in that Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn star Danny Hicks has passed away. Earlier this month, Hicks had revealed to his fans that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer with doctors estimating he had less than three years to live. Sadly, Hicks’ health has since taken a turn for the worse, as Full Empire Promotions has posted on Facebook that the fan favorite actor is no longer with us. “We love you Danny, rest easy my friend. No more pain,” the post reads, accompanied by a photograph of Hicks bearing the years 1951-2020. ”
Danny passed away at his home in CA. We love you Danny, rest easy my friend. 🙁 No more pain.

Hicks is very well known to horror fans for portraying many memorable roles in a variety of cult classics. He is perhaps best remembered toting a shotgun alongside Bruce Campbell in Sam Raimi’s fan favorite sequel Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn. Raimi would later cast Hicks in other roles in films like Darkman, Spider-Man 2, and Oz the Great and Powerful. He’d collaborate with Campbell once more for the meta-horror film My Name Is Bruce, and also starred in other horror favorites like Maniac Cop, Intruder, Wishmaster, and 2001 Maniacs.
When Hicks revealed his cancer diagnosis, he had also announced his plans for one final round of providing autographs for fans. Signed photos were being sold online, and the payments were intended to assist Hicks with his medical treatments. “I have approximately 1 to 3 years to live. But I gotta tell ya, I sure as hell packed a whole bunch of living into my 68 years,” Hicks said in a Facebook post at the time. “I got no change coming back that’s for sure. And not too many regrets. Ok, gotta go. I’m gunna find out just what in the hell is going on down in that fruit cellar.”
