‘Evil Dead II’ Star Danny Hicks Reveals Cancer Diagnosis

Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn

Horror genre legend and Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn star Danny Hicks has delivered some very unfortunate news to his fans, revealing his grim stage 4 cancer diagnosis and noting he had less than three years to live. In a post addressed directly to his followers online, Hicks had this to say in a statement about his diagnosis posted to Facebook:

“To all of the people that I never got to meet, and the 6,018 die hard fans that enjoyed my work. I have some bad news. I have been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. I have approximately 1 to 3 years to live. But I gotta tell ya, I sure as hell packed a whole bunch of living into my 68 years. I got no change coming back that’s for sure. And not too many regrets. Ok, gotta go. I’m gunna find out just what in the hell is going on down in that fruit cellar. Take a stroll on over to FullEmpirePromotions and see what my friend Dominic has in the store.”

Hicks is particularly appreciated by horror fans for his memorable role in Evil Dead II, though he has also appeared in other horror classics like Maniac Cop, Intruder, The Wishmaster, and 2001 Maniacs. He would again collaborate with Evil Dead II director Sam Raimi by appearing in other Raimi films like Darkman and Spider-Man 2. He would also appear as a farmer alongside Bruce Campbell once again in Campbell’s meta-horror movie My Name Is Bruce.

As Hicks can no longer attend fan conventions, his friend Dominic Mancini has set up one last autograph signing for Hicks to be done completely online. From the Full Empire Promotions store, fans can purchase signed photos of Hicks with 100% of the proceeds going straight towards his medical bills. For anyone who just wants to donate a cash value of any amount, Mancini has also set up a GoFundMe page for people to offer monetary donations. You can donate to Danny’s medical bills from his cancer battle and read more information about his situation by visiting GoFundMe.
