Released on June 20, 1975, Jaws has gone on to be one of the most important films in cinematic history. Directed by a young Steven Spielberg, the story is based on a book of the same name by Peter Benchley, which served as his debut fiction novel. Three sequels later, and a long, inspirational legacy that continues to this day, Universal Pictures has released the Jaws 45th Anniversary 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. And, wow, is it a treat for fans!

The 4K transfer is absolutely stunning, bringing about a whole new appreciation for the film. Even longtime fans will be in awe as they watch the bloody effects, the Great White shadows in the water, and that perfect opening with such clarity. There are ten bonus features included:

  • The Making of Jaws
  • The Shark is Still Working: The Impact and Legacy of Jaws
  • Jaws: The Restoration
  • Deleted Scenes and Outtakes
  • From the Set
  • Theatrical Trailer
  • Storyboards
  • Production Photos
  • Marketing Jaws
  • Jaws Phenomenon

The most notable content on this list is the 2012 feature-length documentary The Shark is Still Working: The Impact and Legacy of Jaws. With a runtime of an hour and forty minutes, the doc is a must-see for fans. It features rare behind-the-scenes footage, cast and crew interviews, and major filmmakers who have been influenced by Jaws. Another favorite feature is Jaws: The Restoration, which is an interesting (and geeky…) look into how the actual film restoration process took place.

As someone who has never seen any deleted scenes or outtakes for Jaws, I was curious going into this feature because, at times, they can change how you view certain scenes. I am happy to say that almost all were rightfully cut from the movie we know so well. From the Set is also a pretty interesting watch, as it takes you back to 1970s Martha’s Vineyard with interview footage of Steven Spielberg during the shoot.

The packaging for the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray is of excellent quality. The black-lined Blu-ray case comes in a lenticular side-load slip, 4K disc, Blu-ray disc, and a digital code. Included in the slip is a booklet that goes through the history of Jaws, including original storyboards, shark blueprints, actor bios, trivia, film posters, a tribute to that famous Quint monologue, and more.

Overall, there is no doubt the Jaws 45th Anniversary Blu-ray is worth the $24.99 USD price tag. It gives fans a chance to dive back into water with a beautiful 4K transfer, and provides hours of bonus content and a 44-page collectible book.
