‘Pamela & Ivy’ Short Film Reveals Poison Ivy’s Origin Story

Pamela & Ivy via GTE Productions

From GTE Productions, the new short filmĀ Pamela & Ivy explores the origin story of one of Batman’s greatest foes: Poison Ivy. Certainly among the most unique villains in DC comic book lore, most of us are familiar with Ivy’s abilities and the strange bond she shares with all forms of plants. What’s not quite clear is how this character wound up this way, andĀ Pamela & Ivy looks to answer that question with aĀ very well-madeĀ short film clocking in at less than 17 minutes overall.

Pamela & Ivy is written and directed by Leah McKendrick and produced by Mariah Owen. McKendrick also stars as the adult version of Pamela and Ivy, with Aria Lyric Leabu playing the younger Pamela. Legendary actor Eric Roberts also appears in a lead role in the film. In addition to the great acting, the short also looks incredible with many visually appealing shots that really helped capture the mood. As a big fan of DC and Batman lore, I foundĀ Pamela & Ivy to be incredibly fun with a rather fantastic explanation of just how Gotham’s greenest supervillain came to be.

Synopsis: Pamela & Ivy is a gritty exploration of the childhood traumatic event that spawned one of Gotham City’s most notorious supervillains. Young Pamela is a prisoner in her own life at the hands of a cruel man. From her pain, Ivy is born – a manifestation of Dissociative Identity Disorder. Ivy is mocking and rageful, but confident and strong in ways Pamela yearns to be. While Locked in a basement, Pamela bonds with a small seeding that has grown up from the concrete. She builds a deep emotional connection to this vulnerable, yet resilient life form.Ā Once Pamela is rescued from her nightmare, she struggles to adapt to regular life and to trust those around her. Instead, she gravitates towards the quiet company of plant life. Still – while Pamela’s oppressor is gone, Ivy is not. She lives in the dark corners of her mind, seething and vengeful. As the years pass, Ivy waits for the moment that she will once again be necessary for survival.
