The long-gestating TV series based onĀ God of War is finally moving forward with its lead actor officially on board. Per Deadline, it’s been revealed that The Walking Dead alum Ryan Hurst has been cast in the role of Kratos. It’s also confirmed that pre-production has begun on the project in Vancouver, with the TV series ā from Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios ā given a two-season order.
Directly inspired by the video game franchise, the God of War series is written and executive-produced by Ronald D. Moore, who is serving as showrunner. The show will follow Kratos and his son, Atreus, as they “embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.”
Hurst has experience with the franchise; he previously portrayed Thor in God of War Ragnarök. Fans of The Walking Dead will know him well for his villainous role as Beta, a member of the Whisperers. Hurst is also very well known for starring in the hit FX series Sons of Anarchy. Other roles include other shows like Bates Motel, Outsiders, The Mysterious Benedict Society, and The Abandons, along with feature films including Chasing the Green, A Million Little Pieces, and Desperation Road.
