Bubba Ho-Tep and Cold in July author Joe R. Lansdale is highlighted in the new documentary from Squee Projects, All Hail the Popcorn King. To get to know the award-winning writer who’s been called the “writer of the purple rage,” filmmaker Hansi Oppenheimer chronicles Lansdale’s life and career, using the assistance of many of Lansdale’s friends and colleagues to help tell his story.
In addition to Bubba Ho-Tep star Bruce Campbell, the film also features interviews with James Purefoy, Joe Hill, Don Coscarelli, Mick Garris, Del Howison, Amber Benson, novelist David J. Schow, and former Fangoria editor Tony Timpone.
Synopsis: All Hail the Popcorn King is about writer Joe R. Lansdale who’s written over 50 novels and 500 short stories including Bubba Ho-Tep, Cold in July, The Drive-in, the Hap & Leonard series. Joe is also a Master in Martial Arts and created his own technique. He’s well known for his unique voice and his generosity and support of other writers and filmmakers.
