Hulu is kicking off October with Monsterland, an exclusive 8-part horror anthology series. Monsterland is expected to follow a different kind of creature in each episode, including gothic beasts, werewolves, and fallen angels. The series will also focus on the monstrous humans that these creatures encounter, blurring the lines between man and beast, and blending the genres of creature feature and psychological horror.
Monsterland is based on North American Lake Monsters: Stories by the Shirley Jackson Award-winning author, Nathan Ballingrud. The show is created by Mary Laws, who has written and produced episodes for many successful shows, like Preacher and Succession. She also wrote the screenplay for The Neon Demon.
Some heavy-hitter cast members have been added as well, including Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black), Kelly Marie Tran (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Charlie Tahan (Ozark), and Kaitlyn Dever (Justified).
It sounds like a great start to the spooky season, as Hulu is expected to release all 8 episodes on Friday, October 2nd, 2020.
Synopsis: You can’t escape what lives within. Encounters with mermaids, fallen angels, and other strange beasts drive broken people to desperate acts in Monsterland, an anthology series based on the collection of stories from Nathan Ballingrud’s “North American Lake Monsters”.
