Clancy Brown Horror ‘The Mortuary Collection’ Hits Shudder This Month

Clancy Brown in The Mortuary Collection (Shudder)

Clancy Brown is back in the horror genre for one of this month’s new horror films on Shudder. Called The Mortuary Collection, the film is written and directed by Ryan Spindell. Along with Brown, the film stars Caitlin Custer, Barak Hardley, Christine Kilmer, Ema Horvath, Sarah Hey, and Jacob Elordi.

Synopsis: A young drifter applies for a job at the local mortuary and meets an eccentric mortician (beloved character actor Clancy Brown) who chronicles the strange history of the town through a series of twisted tales, each more terrifying than the last. A SHUDDER ORIGINAL.

Though we’ve enjoyed Brown in a variety of genres through his many unique performances, this will be a return to the horror genre for the fan favorite character actor. He was fantastic as Sheriff Gus Gilbert in the 1992 horror sequel Pet Sematary Two, which earned him a Fangoria Chainsaw Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He is also appreciated for his role in Starship Troopers and other horror and sci-fi films like The Burrowers, John Dies at the End, and Little Evil. Though Brown is always amazing, he’s always particularly enjoyable in these kinds of films.

As of this writing, the film as a near-perfect 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes following its world premiere at last year’s Fantastic Fest. The consensus is that the horror “maintains a consistently high level of quality,” and is a “must-see undertaking for horror fans.” The Mortuary Collection will begin streaming on Shudder on Oct. 15. An official trailer will be released next week, ahead of the film’s premiere. A few additional images from the film are below.
