John Carpenter Announces ‘Lost Themes III: Alive After Death’

John Carpenter's Lost Themes III (Sacred Bones)

John Carpenter has been a busy man in the last four years since the release of his last original album, Lost Themes IIThe horror master performed on his first-ever tour, playing songs from both his Lost Themes albums and re-releases of his classic scores. He then helped compose and produce the soundtrack to David Gordon Green’s Halloween in 2018, but things have been relatively quiet since then, aside from a couple singles released earlier this year (Skeleton, Unclean Spirit). Today, Carpenter announced his upcoming Lost Themes III: Alive After Death for a February 2021 release.

If you haven’t gotten the chance to listen to either of the Lost Themes albums, you’re in for a treat. Carpenter refers to his them as “a soundtrack for movies in your mind”, which is a perfect description. Without relying too much on his past scores, the Lost Themes albums allow your brain to create new stories, with Carpenter scoring your creations. Both albums are absolute jams. The third installment of the series promises to bring an even darker and more mature feel.

Along with the release announcement, Sacred Bones Records and Waxwork Records have opened up preorders for exclusive vinyl records of Lost Themes III. Waxwork is offering a clear press with black and red splatter for $27 USD, while Sacred Bones is offering three different presses, including a limited edition (500 copies) red that comes with a wax-sealed screen-printed wrap around sleeve. All versions of the record come with a massive 24×36 fold-out promotional poster of the man himself. The limited edition press is $27 USD while the others are just $22 USD.

If this announcement wasn’t awesome enough, a new hauntingly good single from Lost Themes III, titled Weeping Ghost is now available for stream on Spotify and other music streaming platforms.

It looks like the horror master has taken it upon himself to let us keep up these spooky feelings into the new year.
