Freddy Krueger Meets the Power Rangers in Fan-Made Comic Crossover

Power Rangers: A Nightmare on Elm Street

It’s the crossover we didn’t know we needed, but are really happy to see happen. Power Rangers: A Nightmare on Elm Street is a fan-made comic book series that answers this question — what would happen if Freddy Krueger met the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers? The series is written by Stephen Harber with artwork by Francisco Silva Mauriz and coloring by James Zark.

In the comic book series, Tommy Oliver and other classic members of the Mighty Morphin team must team up to take on Freddy Krueger when Lord Zedd brings the fictional character into the real world. Although just three issues have been released so far, it’s a very entertaining read, and the team involved does a fantastic job at bringing the Power Rangers into a slasher movie storyline.

According to their website, the comic book project was created to show that the Power Rangers brand can be highly profitable when marketed to an adult audience, i.e. people who used to be 90s kids who have nostalgic memories of watching Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Of course, many of us around at that time also have love for Freddy Krueger, who had been established as one of pop culture’s most recognizable figures.

From the website:

We believe there’s untapped potential in the Power Rangers brand that can capture the interest of adult fans beyond simple nostalgic appeal. By juxtaposing the optimism and wholesomeness of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers with the horrific yet darkly satirical attitude of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, we hope to give fans a glimpse of that potential.

Power Rangers: A Nightmare on Elm Street is completely fan-made, so it’s not officially affiliated with any of the rights-holders on either side. The first three issues are now available to read online with a fourth issue due to drop around Thanksgiving 2020. You can check them out now by visiting the website.
