Jordan Peele’s Next Horror Film Sets 2022 Release Date

Us (Universal Pictures)

Universal Pictures has set the official release date for Jordan Peele’s next horror movie, etching into the calendar the date of July 22, 2022. Per Deadline, his means the horror flick will share an opening weekend with the animated musical Under the Boardwalk from Paramount Pictures. The release will also come just a week after the premiere of the third Fantastic Beasts film from Warner Bros., which was recently given a new release date of July 15, 2022.

As of now, the title for Peele’s new movie hasn’t yet been revealed. As has been the case with Get Out and Us, Peele is also holding back on divulging any plot details at this time, and given the wait for the movie’s release, we could end up waiting for a while to find out more. While details of the concept aren’t currently clear, it’s no surprise that Universal has high hopes for the project, given the immense critical and financial success Peele has achieved with his prior films.

Released in 2017, Get Out served as Peele’s debut as a director; Peele also wrote the screenplay. The film stars Daniel Kaluuya as a young Black man who discovers disturbing secrets about his potential new in-laws when he visits the family of his girlfriend (Allison Williams). On a meager budget of less than $5 million, the film grossed more than $255 million at the box office. Get Out was also universally praised, earning near-perfect ratings from critics all across the board and earning Peele an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.

Last year, Us achieved similar success, also grossing over $255 million on a $20 million budget. The film also brought in incredibly strong and positive reviews. Starring Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke, Us follows a family that’s targeted by a group of sinister doppelgangers.

Time will tell what Jordan Peele has in store for his next horror film. Stay tuned.
