‘Darkwing Duck’ Reboot Series in the Works

Darkwing Duck on DuckTales (Disney+)

New adventures of Darkwing Duck are on the way, as Variety reports that a Darkwing Duck reboot series is in the works at Disney+. Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, and Alex McAtee will executive produce with McAtee overseeing the project. No writer has yet been named, and Disney hasn’t yet provided an official comment.

Darkwing Duck getting a reboot series follows the success of DuckTales getting a reboot of its own in 2017. That series has featured a new version of Darkwing Duck in a recurring role, and given the fan interest, it’s not surprising to see the superhero reportedly getting his own series. In the rebooted DuckTales, Darkwing Duck was introduced as a fictional superhero from years past, and Drake Mallard assumes his identity and becomes a real superhero with a little persuasion from Launchpad McQuack.

It was between 1991 and 1992 when Darkwing Duck originally aired for three seasons. The series spoofed superhero fiction and followed the adventures of the titular vigilante along with his sidekick, Launchpad McQuack, and his adopted daughter Gosalyn. Gosalyn has also appeared in the new DuckTales reboot series. There’s no word yet on when the new show might be released.

For a sneak peek at what the new Darkwing Duck will be like, below you can check out the full two-part DuckTales episode “Let’s Get Dangerous” which heavily features the iconic character.
