HBO Max announced that Scooby-Doo’s Velma Dinkley is getting a ten-episode series from Warner Bros. Animation. Titled Velma, the show will serve as an origin story, with executive producer Mindy Kaling (The Office, The Mindy Project) voicing everyone’s favorite nerd. The show probably won’t be one for the kiddies, however, as HBO Max specifies that Velma is an adult animated comedy series.
Synopsis: Velma tells the origin story of Velma Dinkley, the unsung and underappreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang. An original and humorous spin that unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America’s most beloved mystery solvers.
Charlie Grandy, Howard Klein and Sam Register also serve as executive producers.

Along with Velma, HBO Max also announced series orders for three other adult animated series:
- Clone High (two-season order) – A modern refresh of the hit series from Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Bill Lawrence that was set at a high school for clones of historical figures.
- Fired on Mars – An existential workplace comedy set five minutes in the future, voiced by Pete Davidson (Saturday Night Live).
- Close Enough – A season two and three pick-up for JG Quintel’s adult-animated comedy from Cartoon Network Studios. Season two of Close Enough premieres Thursday, February 25th.
