Paranormal Activity 7 has found its director in Underwater helmer Will Eubank with Christopher Landon returning to write the screenplay. Last fall, Jason Blum announced that a Paranormal Activity reboot was in the works with a release date set for March 4, 2022.
Now, a new report from THR names Eubank as the director of the upcoming film, teaming up with writer Christopher Landon – who wrote installments 2-4 along with writing and directing part 5. Jason Blum of Blumhouse is producing alongside series creator Oren Peli. Landon will also executive produce with Steven Schneider.

No plot details have yet been revealed for the next movie, but insiders are describing it as an “unexpected retooling” of the horror franchise. That doesn’t mean we should expect a change in format, as THR also reports that the reboot “will continue the found footage device.” It seems probable that it will follow new characters and an original story, but it remains to be seen how this new film will differ from the previous installments.
There have been six Paranormal Activity movies released so far, beginning with the original installment in 2007. Because it was shot with an extremely low budget and raked in millions of dollars at the box office, the movie quickly spawned a franchise that quickly churned out sequels for years to come. The last installment of the Paranormal Activity series was released in 2015 before the series went dormant, likely due to that film’s negative reception and falling ticket sales.
Because Underwater was a great flick and with franchise writer Christopher Landon coming back on board to flesh out the story, Paranormal Activity 7 should definitely be something for fans to check out. The movie will be released in theaters on March 4, 2022.
