Sam Raimi has teased the return of a certain Oldsmobile Delta in the upcoming Marvel sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Going all the way back to The Evil Dead, Raimi’s 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88, also known as “The Classic,” has frequently been appearing in the director’s various movies. And it’s looking like Doctor Strange 2 will be no exception.
Over on Reddit, Raimi recently participated in an “Ask Me Anything” Q&A session alongside director Evan Spiliotopoulos to promote the new horror flick The Unholy. It was only natural for fans to ask Raimi about some of his other projects, and one person directly asked the filmmaker if Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will feature the legendary Oldsmobile Delta.
In response, Raimi wrote: “It is currently considering a small cameo. It Auto!”
Evil Dead fans will best recognize the Oldsmobile as Ash Williams’ car in the Evil Dead series. After appearing in the first two movies, the car even returned in Army of Darkness with some heavy modifications to help take on the army of deadites. Years later, Ash was still driving “The Classic” with the vehicle featured prominently in the Starz TV series Ash vs. Evil Dead. The history of the car is explained in a featurette produced by the network during the production of the show.
Raimi’s car was also driven by Uncle Ben in the original Spider-Man movie. It has also been spotted in other works from the director like Darkman, Drag Me to Hell, and The Gift. Sometimes, getting the car into the films has taken some creativity, which includes Raimi hiding pieces of the vehicle into Oz the Great and Powerful as the setting wouldn’t have allowed an appearance from the car as-is.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 25, 2022.
