A new official trailer has been released for Spiral: From the Book of Saw, the ninth installment of the Saw horror franchise. Starring Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson, the sequel picks up years after Jigsaw’s death when a new series of Saw-like killings begin to happen once again.
You can watch the trailer below.
Synopsis: A criminal mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral, the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw. Working in the shadow of his father, an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.
Alongside Chris Rock, Spiral also stars Max Minghella, Marisol Nichols, and Zoie Palmer. No actors from the previous movies are confirmed to appear in Spiral, but surprise cameos are not out of the question. The film is produced by the original Saw team of Mark Burg and Oren Koules, directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, and written by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger.
Prior to the trailer’s release, the Spiral team also released some new character posters with the actors’ faces obscured by black-and-red spirals. The callbacks to the prior movies are certainly there, but it remains to be seen how exactly these new killings will tie into the work of the original Jigsaw killer, who’s long been dead in the Saw universe. The franchise is definitely known for tying things together with huge twists, typically revealed at the end of each movie, and we’ll see if that tradition continues here.
