Jenna Ortega Joins Tim Burton’s ‘Addams Family’ Reboot as Wednesday

Netflix

Jenna Ortega has been tapped by Tim Burton to play a college-aged Wednesday Addams in the upcoming Addams Family reboot on Netflix. Though the project was previously announced by Netflix, no one had yet been cast in the role until now. While no other cast members have yet been revealed, Netflix announced on Wednesday (of course) that Burton’s Wednesday would be Ortega.

Per DeadlineWednesday is “a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ (Ortega) years as a student at Nevermore Academy. That’s where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships.”

After appearing in Jane the Virgin for The CW and You for Netflix, Ortega recently starred in the Netflix comedy Yes Day. Last year, she also worked with the streamer for the horror-comedy sequel The Babysitter: Killer Queen. Ortega can also be seen in the upcoming Scream sequel that’s due to arrive in early 2022 along with another role in the upcoming horror film X.

No one else has yet been named as a part of the cast for Wednesday, so there’s still no word yet on who will be playing Gomez, Morticia, and the rest of the Addamses. Even so, we can presume the family will be featured in a limited capacity, given that the story picks up after Wednesday has grown up and moved out of the family’s kooky mansion.

It’s unclear when Wednesday will be released on Netflix. If you’re unfamiliar with Jenna Ortega, you can get a look at her in the compilation video below, featuring clips of the 18-year-old in other Netflix titles.
