The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It has won the domestic box office following a tight race over the weekend with fellow horror sequel A Quiet Place Part II. On Friday, the third installment of The Conjuring series (and the eighth overall installment of the Conjuring universe) premiered in theaters and on HBO Max. By Sunday, it had solidified its spot at No. 1 for the weekend, with $24 million in tickets sold in its first three days.
Meanwhile, A Quiet Place Part II wasn’t too far behind, scoring $19 million at the box office for its second weekend in theaters. That brings the total domestic ticket sale revenue for the sequel up to $88.6 million. It’s also worth pointing out that when A Quiet Place Part II was released in theaters last week, it scored $48.4 million in its first three days. We should also note that The Conjuring 3 is also available for people to stream at home on HBO Max, while Paramount+ users have to wait for more than a month to stream A Quiet Place Part II.
As for what other people were seeing in theaters, in third place was Cruella at $11.2 million ($43.6 million total), followed by Spirit Untamed at $6.2 million ($6.2 million total) and Wrath of Man at $1.27 million ($24.6 million total).
It’s never a bad thing to see two horror movies competing for the top spot at the box office. With so many other big-name projects in the works, including new installments of franchises like Halloween, Scream, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, we could be on the verge of another horror boom. For now, you can check out both The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and A Quiet Place Part II in theaters now. The official trailers for those films are below.
