Ernie Hudson Says a New ‘Ghostbusters’ Game is Definitely Happening

We might soon be back to bustin’ ghosts digitally as a new Ghostbusters video game is reportedly in the works. Released in 2009, Ghostbusters: The Video Game essentially served as a playable sequel to the original two movies. It brought back its lead stars to lend their voices and likenesses to the characters: Bill Murray as Peter Venkman, Harold Ramis as Egon Spengler, Dan Aykroyd as Ray Stantz, and Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore.

That game has since been remastered, but the future of Ghostbusters in gaming isn’t entirely clear. Recently, Hudson revealed at the Celebrity Fan Fest in San Antonio that another game is now in active development. Per Ghostbusters News, here’s what the actor had to say.

“I just got an e-mail, because we’re doing another video game. They’re scheduling it now to do the recording, and I’m not too sure who’s going to do it, I know me and Danny (Dan Aykroyd), I think. I’m not sure Billy (Bill Murray) will do anything on it. So, there will be another video game. When they’ll bring it out, I don’t know, but it’s definitely happening.”

While there’s apparently no guarantee Murray’s Venkman will be back, it sounds like Ray and Winston will appear in another Ghostbusters video game. Without any other information to go on, we can only speculate what this mysterious game will be like. Will it include the new film Ghostbusters: Afterlife into the canon, perhaps set around or after the events that unfolded in the movie? If that’s the case, will the new cast of characters be involved as well?

Time will tell, but fans have been, for the most part, loving Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The consensus is that the legacy sequel does its job at paying tribute to the original movies while helping to establish a new cast of characters to follow. There’s no word yet of an official sequel but it seems like that’s inevitable. As for the video game, let’s hope more info is coming soon.
