In the brief teaser released, we get a terrifying glimpse of a deranged Homelander (Antony Starr) as he’s being photographed next to Starlight (Erin Moriarty). Season 3 will see a few new additions to the cast, including Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles Soldier Boy, who was “Homelander before Homelander.” Creator and showrunner Eric Kripke spoke with Variety about the character, saying, “I think anyone expecting Jensen to show up and be a good guy, they will be disappointed. I’ll say that!” He also talked about the changes the show would make to Soldier Boy, who originates from the comics. Kripke said, “In the comics, he’s mostly just kind of bumbling and subservient to Homelander, I would say. As we’re writing him in this, we’re getting to really talk about the history of Vought because he’s like John Wayne: He’s one of these guys that’s been around for decades of Vought history. And he was Homelander before Homelander, so he’s from a different era, but he’s got the ego and the ambition — it just comes across in a different way because he’s from a different time.”
The Boys season 3 will consist of eight episodes and stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
Based on the New York Times best-selling comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, and developed for television by executive producer and showrunner Eric Kripke, The Boys is a violent, hilarious, over-the-top look at what happens when superheroes abuse their superpowers and use them for their selfish and perverse gains. The only hope of stopping the seemingly unstoppable Seven? The vigilante group The Boys, who will stop at nothing to expose the flawed, dangerous, and corrupt group of superheroes.
