The fantastic horror YouTube channel Dead Meat will have a new host for its popular Kill Count series. At least for the first half of 2022, while regular host James A. Janisse takes a much-needed break. In the interim, channel co-writer Zoran Gvojic will be assuming hosting duties for Kill Count starting with the seven movies in the Tremors franchise.

Janisse has been running the Dead Meat channel for six years, which currently boasts 5.47 million subscribers. The content is tailor-made for horror fans, either devoted or casual. The channel ranges from long-form podcasts, gaming, and editing streams, to celebrity interviews. There are also various short-form videos like a recent tour through the Scream house used in the third act of Scream (1996). Janisse actually parodied his own YouTube personality in the recently released Scream (2022).

The channel’s biggest draw, the Kill Count series, breaks down every kill a horror film contains. It is both hilariously fun and morbidly academic. Each Count video focuses on one specific horror film, breaking down the plot and characters. The episode tallies up the results with interesting metrics such as gender demographics, killing frequency, time stamps, and the best and worst kill of the film (Golden Chainsaw and Rusty Machete, respectively). Not to mention the body (no pun intended) of any Kill Count is full of fun trivia, factoids, and jokes upon jokes. This is truly a gift of a channel.

Janisse and company have covered many of the popular horror franchises from start to finish on Kill Count, giving us literally hours of quality entertainment while revisiting some of the icons of scary movie cinema. Franchises such as Alien, Final Destination, Friday the 13th (twice), Scream, Halloween, Jurassic Park, Jaws, and The Purge have been featured and are available on curated playlists.

Individual horror fan favorites such as Shaun of the Dead and Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon as well as under-seen cult gems such as Stitches, Spookies, and Tammy and the T-Rex also receive the Kill Count treatment. Suffice to say, this channel covers their bases. Each episode contains enough commentary and humor to touch on the featured film’s cultural relevance and impact while poking fun at any campiness or derivativeness it carries.

James A. Janisse is indeed the face of the channel. But Gvojic steps in confidently in his absence, delivering quality comedic bits and fascinating insight carrying the Kill Count flag into 2022 without missing a beat. Gvojic’s first video covering Tremors (1990) premiered on January 14th, 2022, and is closing in on 2 million views. Some may say such metrics aren’t too important. But I feel it’s a great indicator that Janisse can truly relax before jumping back in front of the camera. If you’re a horror fan of any caliber, this channel is not to be missed.

Dead Meat is currently on YouTube and airs new Kill Count videos weekly.
