We are less than a month away from Texas Chainsaw Massacre releasing on Netflix. Coming on February 18th, 2022, the film will serve as a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper’s 1974 The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, set 50 years after the events of the first film. It has been confirmed that original narrator John Larroquette will return to narrate the sequel.
In a statement with Variety, director David Blue Garcia says, “It felt important to honor the original TCM at every opportunity. John’s voice is iconic in the original opening and we thought it would help set the perfect tone in our own intro. It’s also a subtle way of letting the fans know they’re in good hands.”
As we have seen in other recent sequels released years after, fans can expect to see nods to the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Garcia goes on to say, “I can’t wait for fans to analyze and find all of the callbacks, some of which aren’t even intentional. I swear some stuff just happened and it’s kind of freaky. I will say that we shot with one of the original, working Poulan chainsaws from the original film. On set, every morning I would walk by the prop cart, touch it and get its blessing for the day. I wanted some of its ’70s magic.”
Along with Garcia at the director’s helm, the screenplay is by Chris Thomas Devlin with a story by Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead 2013, Don’t Breathe) and Rodo Sayagues (Evil Dead 2013, Don’t Breathe 1 & 2).
Melody (Sarah Yarkin), her teenage sister Lila (Elsie Fisher), and their friends Dante (Jacob Latimore) and Ruth (Nell Hudson) head to the remote town of Harlow, Texas, for business. However, things turn into a nightmare when they accidentally disrupt the home of Leatherface, the deranged serial killer.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre will release on February 18th, 2022, on Netflix.
