James Wan Reveals ‘M3gan’ Poster and 2023 Release Date

Universal Pictures

Over the last two decades, James Wan has cemented himself as being one of the most well-rounded and most popular modern horror minds, releasing films like Saw, Insidious, The Conjuring, and most recently, Malignant. Though not sitting in the director’s chair for it, his next project is M3gan, a new horror film that he wrote and produced, set to release in 2023.

Wan revealed the film’s poster on his personal Instagram account, with the caption saying, “Meet Megan. Your new friend.”

The IMDB synopsis reads:
A robotics engineer at a toy company builds a life-like doll that begins to take on a life of its own.

General fan reactions have been comparing the synopsis to Lars Klevberg’s 2019 remake of Child’s Play but keeping Wan’s filmmaking experiences regarding creepy killer dolls (Dead Silence, The Conjuring, Annabelle) in mind, we think his story will have some pleasant surprises.

M3gan will be directed by Gerard Johnstone, the mind behind the underrated 2014 horror comedy Housebound. The film was written for the screen by Luke Cage and Malignant screenplay writer Akela Cooper. The new film will star Allison Williams (Get Out), Ronny Chieng (Crazy Rich Asians), Violet McGraw (The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep), Brian Jordan Alvarez (Will & Grace), and Kimberly Crossman (Deathgasm) as the voice of M3gan. Blumhouse Productions will be joining Wan in producing, and Universal Pictures will release the film.

As of now, M3gan has a release date of January 13th, 2023. Check back for more updates and the trailer release!
