After the passing of actor and martial artist Jason David Frank, the future of his passion project, Legend of the White Dragon, had been unclear. From Bat in the Sun Productions, the series is heavily inspired by Power Rangers and features other stars from the franchise in addition to Frank in the lead role. The limited series was funded on Kickstarter, where fans pledged more than $508,000 to assist Frank and the filmmakers with carrying out their vision.
Sadly, Frank died in November at the age of 49, but he was very excited about this project. Last year, he revealed some first-look photos of himself in costume for the series. His outfit is reminiscent of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers suit he wore back when he was the White Ranger.

When Frank died, it seemed like there was a good chance the project would be canceled. However, a new post made by the official account for Legend of the White Dragon on Twitter has now revealed that the filmmakers are still working hard on the film in the wake of Frank’s passing. An image was shared of his chair from the set with the Legend of the White Dragon script on top, along with a message teasing the film’s release.
“We’re going to do right by (Jason David Frank) & make sure his dream is seen by everyone,” the announcement reads. “We are working very hard behind the scenes. Stay tuned!”

Legend of the White Dragon has Frank in the starring role as Erik Reed. Other Power Rangers stars include Jason Faunt (Power Rangers Time Force), Johnny Yong Bosch (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), Ciara Hanna (Power Rangers Megaforce), Chrysti Ane (Power Rangers Ninja Steel), and Yoshi Sudarso (Power Rangers Dino Charge).
The official synopsis reads:
“The White Dragon, Erik Reed, has returned home to Virtuo City 3 years later after being defeated in a colossal battle against the ancient overlord, Ashtagor. The crystal he used to become the White Dragon was broken in two as a result of the epic battle, both pieces were subsequently lost. Being blamed for the destruction and collateral lives lost, his identity was outed after the battle thus making him a fugitive from the law.
We now follow Erik on his journey as he teams up with treasure hunters from the past who help him reclaim his power as the White Dragon. Once reunited with his powers, he and his team are now ready to battle a new threat, Dragon Prime, who seeks revenge against the White Dragon. Erik must now try and defeat Dragon Prime in order to get one step closer to clearing his name and being able to protect his family from an ancient evil that still lurks in the darkness… Ashtagor.”
Ever since Mr. Frank’s passing, it seems like he loved being the white ranger when it aired in 1993. I am excited but at the same time sad that he’s not here with us Rest in Peace Jason David Frank. I wished I could say thank you for those wonderful years being the power ranger and beyond. May the power protect you in Heaven or wherever you are.
I used to really enjoy the green ranger, I think I would have enjoyed his final movie
