Might we be getting a sequel to Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man? Directed by Whannell and produced by Jason Blum, The Invisible Man reimagined the classic Universal Monster by putting a modern spin on the story with Elisabeth Moss in the lead role. The film was a big hit, scoring big bucks at the box office against a modest budget in addition to pulling in praise from critics and horror fans alike.
There have been rumors in the past of The Invisible Man 2 happening, but coming into 2023, there doesn’t seem to be any traction on the film. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Blum provides an update on The Invisible Man 2. As he was participating in the interview with fellow M3GAN producer James Wan, Blum suggested that the two of them could perhaps collaborate on the sequel to get it made.
“Well, it’s a great question,” Blum said when asked why there hadn’t been a sequel. “I think we mostly hold me accountable, but hopefully, should our dreams come true and our two companies get to work together, maybe James will help me solve that problem.”
Wan added, “I’d be more than happy to.”
The previous movie follows Moss as a woman who appears to be tormented by her ex-boyfriend, whom she thought was dead, after the man acquires the ability to become invisible. Along with Moss, the film stars Aldis Hodge, Storm Reid, Harriet Dyer, Michael Dorman, and Oliver Jackson-Cohen.
The Invisible Man boasts a score of 92% at Rotten Tomatoes, and that’s exceptional, especially for a horror film that’s a remake of a previously established concept. The audience score is not far behind at 88%, with most everyone enjoying the film. It is also ranked by the website as the ninth best horror movie of all time. It’s just been a few years, so the ship doesn’t seem to have sailed just yet on The Invisible Man 2, so given Blum’s new comments, it may just be a matter of time.
