Spoilers for Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches Episode 6, “The Transference”
Through the first five episodes of this series, the mysterious connection between Lasher and the Mayfair family has only been hinted at, with no real hard evidence pointing to why the two seemed to be forever bound together. In Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches episode 6, “Transference,” we finally get some answers while Rowan desperately searches for a way to rid herself of Lasher, once and for all.
After Lasher appears to Rowan at Ciprien’s not-so-secret hideaway, even with Ciprien’s spells protecting it, she realizes there is no way to ignore Lasher and move on with her life. Rowan turns the Mayfair family, reaching out to Cortland Mayfair and expressing her desire to remove Lasher from her life. Cortland tells Rowan of an ancient ritual that would allow the influence of Lasher to be removed from her and given to someone else. Of course, nothing should ever be taken at face value when it comes to the Mayfair family, and Cortland not only trades favors with Rowan but lets the viewer see just how important Lasher is to his personal and professional plans.

Meanwhile, Ciprien turns to the Talamasca for guidance as he wishes to learn the true power and history of the necklace that seems to bind Mayfair women to Lasher. With their help, he lets the necklace take him back to the flashbacks that have been part of most episodes. There, with a cry for help from someone in need, he sees the birthplace of how the necklace bound the Mayfair women to Lasher. However, there is still more to the story, and something Lasher said points to that directly, but at least now we have a starting point of sorts to where this twisted relationship began.
The ritual goes ahead as planned, but to no one’s surprise, it’s not the answer some were hoping for, especially for Rowan and the woman who is chosen to take her place. The Mayfair family and Lasher spin so many tales and tell so many lies that it’s hard to figure out what is the truth and fiction. Rowan finds herself constantly second-guessing the information she gets and that source of information. However, Cortland did warn Rowan there were risks, and I guess now she and a few others will find out just what that means.
Unlike last week’s episode, “Transference” is a much better thought-out episode, with some reveals mixed in with more questions, albeit interesting ones. While I understand the show keeping Lasher under wraps most of these six episodes (except perhaps “The Thrall,” which was a bit of a letdown), I think it’s time to unleash him, so to speak, and dig deeper into his background and ties to the Mayfair family. Also, the Talamasca information has been as secretive as the organization itself, and I’d love to see some more time spent digging into their origins.

I’d love to see more of Cortland, as Harry Hamlin is having a great time in this role, and the scene between Cortland and Rowan was great. But in the end, this is Rowan’s journey. Alexandra Daddario is doing a solid job as Rowan, which is a relief to all since she is holding a lot of the show together but needs a bit more help.
Mayfair Witches episode 6 put the show back on course, but with only two episodes remaining, it still has a lot of stories to tell, even with an early season two renewal announcement.
