Acting legend Nicolas Cage has revealed the titles of his four most favorite films.
Cage, who has starred in a wide variety of films of varying genres, was present at the Toronto International Film Festival to promote his newest movie, Dream Scenario. On the red carpet, he was asked by Letterboxd to name his four favorite movies. Cage obliged by coming up with four titles, and given how there wasn’t much hesitation, it’s clear how much he loves these films.
As told to Letterboxd, Cage’s favorite movies are “Juliet of the Spirits, Orson Welles’ Citizen Kane, Truffaut’s [The] 400 Blows, [and] Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 [A Space Odyssey].” He did add that the list “just goes on and on,” implying he had many other favorite films he’d be happy to mention, though he kept it simple with four titles, as he’d been asked.
Directed by Federico Fellini, Juliet of the Spirits is a 1965 Italian film about a middle-aged woman who gathers the courage to leave her adulterous husband with some supernatural help. Citizen Kane, released in 1941, is widely regarded as one of the best movies of all time. Winning an Oscar for its screenplay, the Orson Welles film follows a reporter taking a deep dive into the life of a dying man to determine the true meaning of his final words.

François Truffaut’s The 400 Blows, a French film released in 1959, follows a rebellious Parisian boy whose behavior often gets him into trouble with teachers and his parents. Like Citizen Kane in the U.S., the film is considered to be one of the best French movies ever made. It was also nominated for an Academy Award for its script.
Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, meanwhile, is also an Oscar-winning film that’s been heavily praised since its original release in 1968. The film is a sci-fi epic focusing on an impending showdown between humans and machines in an alternate future.
