Pete Davidson’s Peacock series Bupkis was filled with celebrity cameos, but perhaps the strangest of them all was an appearance from David Howard Thornton as Art the Clown. Of course, Art is known for shocking audiences with his dastardly behavior in the Terrifier films. That made it a surprise when the character suddenly appeared in a bizarre hallucination sequence alongside other celebrities in the first season’s finale for Bupkis.

Speaking with Cinefied, Thornton touched on his surprise cameo in Bupkis and how it came to be. The actor revealed how Davidson happens to be a huge Terrifier fan, and the former SNL star even went so far as to have a theater rented out for Terrifier 2 so he could actually watch the film alongside writer-director Damien Leone. Needless to say, it was all Davidson’s idea to bring in Art the Clown for Bupkis, though Leone and Thornton were quick to get on board.

“He’s like, ‘I love this character,’ so he went to Damien [and said], ‘I’m doing this show called Bupkis. Is there any way Dave could come on and be Art in this one scene?’ [We responded], ‘Yeah, of course, man. We’d be honored. That would be awesome,'” Thornton explains. “And it works so well, because it’s a hallucination, so it totally works in the whole scheme of things. That was just a lot of fun.”

Thornton found the whole experience to be “wild,” never expecting that he’d get a call from Pete Davidson to come on the comedian’s set. He also sang Davidson’s praises on a personal level, calling him a “great guy” who’s “loyal to a fault.” With a second season of Bupkis in development, perhaps that loyalty will see Art the Clown popping back up in Season 2 as well.

Bupkis is streaming on Peacock.
