The official trailer has been released for Amber Heard‘s newest movie, In the Fire.

Following its premiere at the Taormina Film Festival in June, In the Fire is set to be released on Oct. 13, which just so happens to be a Friday the 13th. That’s in line with the supernatural horror that Heard faces in the film, which takes her back to the 1800s. The Aquaman star plays a woman hoping to save a young boy who appears to be possessed by the Devil. The trailer can be viewed below.

“The film is a meditation on the almost supernatural powers of love told through a strong-willed and independent woman at the turn of the 20th century,” Heard said of the film prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike. “I feel honored to be part of this labor of love and to be the lead in Conor Allyn’s vision. I feel lucky to be surrounded by such an amazing cast. They’re as dedicated and magical as the characters they play.”

Conor Allyn directed In the Fire and wrote the screenplay with Pascal Borno and Silvio Muraglia. Along with Heard, the film also stars Eduardo Noriega, Lorenzo McGovern Zaini, Luca Calvani, and Yari Gugliucci. It’s a return to the horror genre for Heard, whose previous credits include starring in John Carpenter’s last feature film, The Ward, in 2010.

In the film, per the synopsis, “A doctor from New York (Amber Heard) travels to a remote plantation in the 1890s to care for a disturbed boy who seems to have inexplicable abilities. She begins treating the child, but in doing so ignites a war of science versus religion with the local priest who believes the boy is possessed by the Devil and is the reason for all the village’s woes.”

In the Fire will be released in theaters, On Demand, and On Digital on Oct. 13, 2023.
