The highly anticipated first trailer for Ti West’s MaXXXine was unveiled today. The film is the third installment in the X trilogy, which began with 2022’s X and stars Mia Goth, Jenna Ortega, Martin Henderson, and Brittany Snow. The prequel, Pearl, was released the same year, bringing Mia Goth back as its lead. Now, the story concludes with MaXXXine.
Maxine Minx (Mia Goth) has finally made it to Hollywood and is getting the recognition she so desperately craves. As she climbs the ladder of stardom, the infamous serial killer Night Stalker roams Tinseltown, murdering young starlets. Will a lust for fame and high-profile investigation derail everything Maxine has worked for?
Alongside Goth, the cast of MaXXXine includes Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), Kevin Bacon (Tremors franchise, Leave the World Behind), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul), Michelle Monaghan (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, The Family Plan), Bobby Cannavale (The Watcher, Blonde), Halsey (Sing 2), Moses Sumney (The Idol), and Lily Collins (Emily in Paris, Curb Your Enthusiasm).

From 1984 to 1985, the real-life serial killer Richard Ramirez, also known as the Night Stalker, stalked victims in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Despite being on death row, Ramirez died of health issues in 2013. In addition to multiple films depicting his spree, the killer was featured in two seasons of American Horror Story, and a documentary was produced by Netflix in 2021.
MaXXXine’s dose of realism extends beyond the Night Stalker, as Maxine is seen visiting the set of the Bates Motel. Ti West’s film is set in 1985, and Psycho III was released in 1986. Thus, it’s possible that Maxine gets a role alongside director and star Anthony Perkins. While this has not been confirmed, it’s still fun to speculate.
The film will open in theaters on July 5, 2024, via A24. Check out the first trailer below.
