A new Masters of the Universe movie is now on track to be released in theaters. The development comes after the project was initially scrapped at Netflix where it was first put into production.

Per Variety, Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films have set the live-action Masters of the Universe reboot for a theatrical premiere on June 5, 2026. Also announced is the director for the film, as Travis Knight (Bumblebee) is on board to helm. Chris Butler is writing the screenplay following previous drafts penned by David Callaham, Aaron Nee, and Adam Nee. Producing the film is Robbie Brenner for Mattel Films alongside Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch.

An official synopsis has revealed that the Masters of the Universe movie “introduces a 10-year-old Prince Adam, who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword – the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!”

There haven’t been any official casting announcements made for the film. The project has been slowly in gestation for years, previously at Sony before getting sold to Netflix, where it was then canceled during pre-production.

At one point, Noah Centineo had been cast as He-Man, but the actor is no longer attached to the project. Kyle Allen was reportedly cast after Netflix had taken control, but he is not currently attached to the newest incarnation that’s been given an actual theatrical release. It is unclear for now who will end up getting cast as the iconic character, along with the other Masters of the Universe.

The Masters of the Universe reboot will be released on June 5, 2026.
