From writer-director Steven Kostanski (PG: Psycho Goreman, The Void) comes Frankie Freako, an ’80s-inspired monster-driven horror comedy filled with mischief, puppets, and absurdist humor. The film made its world premiere at the 2024 Fantasia International Film Festival and will be released in select theaters on October 4th via Shout! Studios.
After calling a late-night party hotline that promises out-of-this-world fun, uptight yuppie Conor must battle the pint-sized forces of evil unleashed through his phone line, led by the maniacal rock n’ roll goblin Frankie Freako.Â
Frankie Freako stars Conor Sweeney (V/H/S/94, Psycho Goreman) as Conor, Adam Brooks (The Editor, Psycho Goreman) as Mr. Buechler, Matthew Kennedy (The Editor, Psycho Goreman) as the voice of Frankie Freako, Meredith Sweeney (Manborg, The Editor) as the voice of Dottie Dunko, and Kristy Wordsworth (Blaze, The Spy Who Never Dies) as Kristina.

The film opened to positive reviews, with ScreenAnarchy saying, “Most of all, Frankie Freako is freakin’ fun! There is a playful nihilism that keeps the viewer on its toes, never quite knowing where the film is going, but eager for the journey. There’s no one out there making movies quite like Steven Kostanski, and if you loved Psycho Goreman and Manborg, you’re really going to love Frankie Freako.” Nightmare on Film Street explains, “It’s the type of ride where everyone can turn off their brains and just have fun. Once Raven Banner unleashes Frankie Freako to cinemas and home viewing, everyone will be running to their phones to join the party!” Rue Morgue Magazine also enjoyed the film, saying, “It is overall a tongue-in-cheek satire of other tiny terror films of the era (quite specifically Ghoulies Go to College), and Sweeney’s schlocky performances match this nicely.”
