Over the last two years, Blumhouse has had box-office and/or critical success with M3GAN, Insidious: The Red Door, Totally Killer, Five Nights at Freddy’s, and Speak No Evil. Jason Blum’s production company shows no signs of slowing down this year. They are kicking things off with an anticipated Universal Monsters remake and will continue with theatrical releases.
Along with original films by Jaume Collet-Serra and Christopher Landon, there will be a spin-off and sequels to recent releases.

Wolf Man
Release Date: January 17, 2025
Director: Leigh Whannell
Starring: Julia Garner, Christopher Abbott, Matilda Firth
Wolf Man, a Universal Monsters remake directed by Leigh Whannell, will be the year’s first major theatrical release. His previous Universal film, The Invisible Man, was a box office hit, grossing $144.5 million on a $7 million budget. It also has a Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes among critics and audiences.

Synopsis: Blake (Christopher Abbott) and his family are attacked by an unseen animal and, in a desperate escape, barricade themselves inside a farmhouse as the creature prowls the perimeter. However, as the night continues, Blake behaves strangely, transforming into something unrecognizable that soon jeopardizes his wife (Julia Garner) and daughter (Matilda Firth).

The Woman in the Yard
Release Date: March 28, 2025

Starring: Danielle Deadwyler, Okwui Okpokwasili, Russell Hornsby, Peyton Jackson, Estella Kahiha
The airport thriller Carry-On, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, was Netflix’s biggest hit in 2024. His next film, The Woman in the Yard, will be released this spring, starring Carry-On’s Danielle Deadwyler. According to Variety, Jason Blum stated, “The Woman in the Yard is the perfect match, a film that’s ambitious in scope but modest in budget that combines Jaume’s vision with the incomparable Danielle Deadwyler.”
Synopsis: A woman in black appears on a family’s front lawn and delivers a chilling warning. No one knows where she came from, what she wants, or when she will leave.

Drop
Release Date: April 11, 2025
Director: Christopher Landon
Starring: Meghann Fahy, Brandon Sklenar, Jeffery Self, Gabrielle Ryan Spring, Violett Beane, Jacob Robinson, Ed Weeks
Christopher Landon, the director of Happy Death Day and its sequel, is releasing Drop, a “fast-paced” thriller produced by Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes. This will be a busy first half of the year for Landon, who is also one of the screenwriters for the Valentine’s Day slasher Heart Eyes from Screen Gems.
Synopsis: Violet, a widowed mother on her first date in years, arrives at an upscale restaurant where she is relieved that her date, Henry, is more charming and handsome than she expected. But their chemistry begins to curdle as Violet becomes irritated and then terrorized by a series of anonymous drops to her phone.
She is instructed to tell nobody and follow instructions, or the hooded figure she sees on her home security cameras will kill Violet’s young son and babysitting sister. Violet must do exactly as directed, or everyone she loves will die. Her unseen tormentor’s final directive? Kill Henry.

M3GAN 2.0

Starring: Allison Williams, Jenna Davis, Violet McGraw, Amie Donald
M3GAN 2.0 is one of the most anticipated Blumhouse horror movies releasing in 2025, and we expect a strong box office performance. The 2023 film produced not only a sequel but a universe, with the spin-off SOULM8TE slated to be released in 2026.
The official plot is yet unknown. However, it seems likely that things will pick up where the first film ended.

Thread: An Insidious Tale
Release Date: August 29, 2025

Starring: Mandy Moore, Kumail Nanjiani
Insidious is another Blumhouse franchise that has spawned sequels and now a spin-off. The Umbrella Academy and Moon Knight director Jeremy Slater is releasing Thread: An Insidious Tale, which follows a couple in the same universe as the films.

The Black Phone 2
Release Date: October 17, 2025
Director: Scott Derrickson
Starring: Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, Miguel Mora
The Grabber and the main cast will return in The Black Phone 2. It is unclear how the child nabber and killer will return, but Ethan Hawke has been confirmed to reprise his role. Expect to see his iconic mask again while trick-or-treating this Halloween.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2
Release Date: December 5, 2025
Director: Emma Tammi
Starring: Elizabeth Lail, Josh Hutcherson, Matthew Lillard, Piper Rubio
The live-action film adaptation of the popular video game series Five Nights at Freddy’s is getting a sequel. As with The Black Phone, it’s unclear how William Afton will return, but Matthew Lillard will reprise his role alongside Josh Hutcherson.
While there is no official synopsis, we can anticipate seeing variations on classic characters and perhaps a few new animatronic faces.
