Lily Sullivan has been cast in Kate Dolan’s SOULM8TE as a killer Artificially Intelligent android. The movie is a spin-off of the hugely popular horror film M3GAN from 2022, which is about a little girl who, after losing her parents, develops a dangerous relationship with a lifelike AI doll.

SOULM8TE centers on a man who acquires an Artificially Intelligent android to cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife. In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, he inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate. The film is in the tradition of the ’90s domestic thrillers but with a modern, technological twist.

Sullivan is best known to horror fans as Beth in Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead reboot, Evil Dead Rise (2023). The actress has also starred in Matt Vesely’s Monolith (2022), executive producer Eli Bush’s Barkskins (2020), and starred as Miranda in the six-part series Picnic at Hanging Rock.

Kate Dolan (You Are Not My Mother) will direct the film. Dolan rewrote an original draft written by Rafael Jordan (Salvage Marines), with the story by James Wan, Ingrid Bisu, and Jordan.

James Wan and Jason Blum will produce SOULM8TE. Michael Clear and Judson Scott of Wan’s Atomic Monster banner will executive produce, along with Ingrid Bisu. Alayna Glasthal is the executive overseeing the project for Atomic Monster.

Sullivan is represented by CAA and RGM Artists.

On a $12 million budget, M3GAN made over $180 million at the box office. In addition to spin-offs, a sequel, M3GAN 2.0, is currently being developed and set to be released in June 2025. It will star Allison Williams as Gemma, Violet McGraw as Cady, Jenna Davis as the voice of Megan, Brian Jordan Alvarez, Jen Van Epps, Ivanna Sakhno, Timm Sharp, Aristotle Athari, and Jemaine Clement. Gerard Johnstone and Akela Cooper will return to direct and write the film.
