Ever since the conclusion of The Penguin in 2024, fans of the hit spinoff series for The Batman have been waiting to hear if there will be a second season. It seemed that it was likely to happen in the aftermath of the show, given the immense success that it had garnered from both critics and fans. Though Colin Farrell shined in the titular role, much of the success of The Penguin could also be attributed to Cristin Milioti, who won a Primetime Emmy Award for her co-starring role as Sofia Falcone.
Unfortunately, it would seem that The Penguin Season 2 is no closer to happening now in 2026 than it was back when the first season ended. While at the Sundance Film Festival for the premiere of her new movie, Buddy, Milioti was asked by Deadline about any updates on The Penguin Season 2. She shared that there’s been no movement toward making this happen behind the scenes, as much as she is still hoping for a new season to come to be.
“Yeah, there’s no official word on anything,” Milioti said. “I would love nothing more [than to return for Season 2]. Truly.”
When Buddy co-star Topher Grace chimed in to say that whoever’s in charge needs to go ahead and greenlight a second season immediately, Milioti responded, “Thanks Topher. I know, I hope [there will be a Season 2]. Fingers crossed.”

While Season 2 of The Penguin is uncertain, Milioti offered another update on the future of Sofia which is much more bleak. Some fans have been hoping that Sofia would make an appearance in The Batman Part II after becoming a fan favorite in The Penguin. Asked directly by Deadline if she would at least pop up in the sequel to The Batman, Milioti “definitively” stated that she will not be in the movie at all.
“[I am] definitively not in the film, which is a bummer,” she said.
