There have been countless articles, books, documentaries, etc. that have explored the idea of how vampires have become the erotic figures they are. There have been films that really drive home the exotic element while further exploring the dark world from which they came. Then there are films that throw all that shit right out the window and just give audiences just enough to satisfy their sweet tooth.
A film like Jeffrey Arsenault’s Date with a Vampire (2000) does just that. Visual Vengeance has given the fifty-six-minute SOV feature the premium treatment, delivering a package full of the aforementioned sweets.
Violet (Lori Thomas) moves through the city like a secret, a vampire driven as much by desire as by the need to feed. By night, she drifts from bar to bar, drawing men and women into her spell with equal parts allure and danger. Chuck (Robin Macklin), a lonely young dude she meets, never sees the trap closing.
What begins as casual flirtation slowly tightens into something darker, more consuming. Seduction gives way to obsession, and intimacy becomes entrapment, as Chuck is pulled into Violet’s private world, one defined by pleasure, power, and an appetite that can never be satisfied.

Director Arsenault has a string of sexy bloodsucker films, and this is the one that essentially started it all. The script for Date with a Vampire was written by Kevin J. Lindenmuth, who has quite a resume of his own. The two of them together have slimmed down any deep narrative and deliver just the goods, which mainly include plenty of blood and, of course, breasts. It’s definitely one of those films, but it does have a hint of subtext that may get overlooked by some.
During the 90’s and early 2000’s, horror and softcore seemed to go hand in hand, making this a sought-after addition you may not have seen during that period. It’s a micro-budgeted film that delivers on its promise. Can you really ask for anything else?

With a runtime of just under an hour, Visual Vengeance made sure to load this package up, so you’re going to get your money’s worth. Notable among the inclusions is Arsenault’s Blood Craving (2002), a short that delivers as well. The set features an SD master from original tape elements, a commentary with director Jeffrey Arsenault, multiple interviews, a location video, image gallery, original trailer, a commentary track on Blood Craving, After Midnight Entertainment: Trailer Reel, Visual Vengeance trailers, reversible sleeve featuring new Blood Craving art, mini-poster, a Limited Edition O-Card by Rick Melton, and much more.
As always, Visual Vengeance delivers what they do best, and Date with a Vampire is a SOV quickie that delivers on all its promises.
