This article contains spoilers for MGM + ‘s From Season 4, Episode 7
In last week’s episode, after realizing Jade (David Alpay) was correct about the hidden door, Boyd (Harold Perrineau) decides it’s time to plan a way to enter the tunnels and somehow rescue the long-dead children. In theory, it sounds oddly plausible.
But in “Best Laid Plans,” we learn yet again that the evil surrounding the town is always watching, thanks to Sophia (Julia Doyle). Boyd’s experiment to test that theory goes awry, and the evil pushes back, leaving chaos in its wake.
With Donna (Elizabeth Saunders) still recovering, even more responsibility falls to Boyd, who is showing signs of wearing down, physically and mentally. However, he presses on and begins putting a plan in motion. He assigns people to learn more about the history of Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) and Jade in this town and to gather as much information as possible.
Speaking of those two, Boyd gathers everyone around and tells them the tale of reincarnation, with mixed results. Henry (Robert Joy) reacts with disbelief, refusing to accept that Tabitha is really his dead wife. It’s hard not to blame him; he’s been dropped into something he cannot make sense of, and his only solace is drowning out the confusion in booze.

Victor (Scott McCord) seems to be one step ahead of everyone in the town, even amid his struggle to coexist in day-to-day life. Realizing he needs to find out whether the Man in the Yellow Suit is back, he enlists Tabitha and Ethan (Simon Webster) to look for clues. While examining the old car the Man in the Yellow Suit arrived in, Victor discovers a bag of human teeth, as if they were being collected as trophies.
Victor knows what happened before when Sophia’s The Man in the Yellow Suit showed his true colors (no pun intended), and now the town is going to need him more than ever. Not just for information on who or what he is, but also for how they are going to stop him.
As in the last few episodes, different characters get some screen time to show where their heads are and that they haven’t been forgotten. Julie (Hannah Cheramy) is still struggling, even more so now after her mother’s revelation about the whole reincarnation thing. Donna is still a handful, even with forced bed rest, and that’s a good thing, as she continues in her role as town mother, both stern and understanding.

Acosta (Samantha Brown) seems more focused on completing tasks. Meanwhile, Elgin (Nathan D. Simmons) still understands, more than most, that the townspeople have been fed so many lies that they don’t believe the truth, even when it’s right in front of them.
Boyd’s experiment centers on the seemingly powerful spears/talismans, with the goal of seeing whether they can kill the creatures that come out at night. However, while his son Ellis (Corteon Moore) and Kenny (Ricky He) argue with Boyd about whether he is physically capable of executing the plan, Sophia has a plan of her own.
She places a spell on Roger’s dead body, still in the shed, and, as it turns out, it brings him back to life. When Ricky stabs a creature of the night and it doesn’t die, he is forced to flee to the bus. At the same time, Roger comes to life and breaks into Colony House, causing panic and mayhem before Elgin ‘kills’ him with one of the spears.
Overall, the evening was a big mess that only created more confusion and panic. An interesting twist was that Fatima (Pegah Ghafoori) saved Kenny from the Smiling Man (Smiley) on the bus using her newfound connection to the creature she had given birth to.

Of course, this is what Sophia wanted. She heard the plan ahead of time, made sure the creatures were ready, and at the same time let Roger loose on the townspeople to add even more chaos to an already chaotic situation. The smirk on Sophia’s face at Colony House said it all. If this town is going to survive, it had better figure out who she really is sooner rather than later, before the people start turning on each other, as they have in the past.
Although From Season 4, Episode 7, “Best Laid Plans,” had what seemed like similar beats to other episodes, it moved beyond that and involved multiple characters in meaningful ways. While it didn’t really solve anything, in fact, it may have created a bigger mess overall (minus the Fatima moment), the tension was high, and the consequences of failure felt real, leaving the town in a real mess about what to do next.
