Apple TV‘s Widow’s Bay is one of 2026’s most surprising TV hits, masterfully blending horror and comedy. Created by Katie Dippold, the series stars Matthew Rhys as Tom Loftis, the mayor of the small New England town of Widow’s Bay. Since its April premiere, the show has gained momentum and is widely regarded as a love letter to the horror genre. Apple TV has now confirmed the Season 2 renewal.
Widow’s Bay also stars Kate O’Flynn as Patricia Moyer, Stephen Root as Wyck Crawford, Kingston Rumi Southwick as Evan Loftis, Kevin Carroll as Sheriff Bechir Clemmons, and Dale Dickey as Rosemary. Most of Season 1 is directed by Hiro Murai, with additional episodes directed by Ti West, Sam Donovan, and Andrew DeYoung.
In Widow’s Bay, Mayor Tom Loftis is desperate to bring tourism to the small, struggling town. Unfortunately, the locals aren’t quite on board because the island is believed to be cursed. Tom resists the idea and tries to prove them wrong, only to discover it’s all true. He and a small group are determined to rid the island of the evil that lurks and lift the curse for good.
Although Season 1 has yet to air, Season 2 has been greenlit. In addition to the renewal, Apple TV announced a new multi-year overall deal with creator, showrunner, and executive producer Katie Dippold. Previously, she was a writer for Mad TV and Parks and Recreation and wrote Ghostbusters (2016) and Haunted Mansion (2023).

“From the moment audiences arrived in Widow’s Bay, they’ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laughs, and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro, Matthew, and the entire team have created,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming, Apple TV. “It’s become one of those shows everyone’s talking about, and we’re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can’t wait to return for another season.”

“Season two is about how everything is great on the island, and there’s nothing to worry about,” said Dippold.
The show has inspired countless social media memes and reels, fueled by Rhys’ epic reactions, O’Flynn’s eccentric behavior, and the show’s brilliant vintage analog aesthetic. Fans can also find a fun Easter egg by searching for the show’s name on a PC.
The Season 1 finale will premiere on Wednesday, June 17, on Apple TV.
