One of the most anticipated upcoming video games is Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 remake. First announced in 2015, excitement for the title increased exponentially after we finally got a look at the game’s footage earlier this year. As its 2019 release date draws closer, Capcom is showing off more and more footage from the game, and it’s already clear this will be the best Resident Evil game in years.
At the Gamescom 2018 convention in Germany, Capcom released an extended gameplay clip featuring one of Resident Evil 2‘s protagonists, Claire Redfield. Those who’ve played the original will obviously remember Claire as one of the game’s two playable characters, with the other being Leon Kennedy. Another character from the game, Sherry Birkin, is also featured in the 4-minute clip, as is her mutated father. You can watch it below.
Over Claire’s shoulder, we can witness a boss battle between the heroine and William Birkin. Pumping William full of bullets, the battle gets pretty tense and apparently doesn’t seem to end very well. More footage after the fight shows Claire and Sherry exploring the creepy parking garage of the police station, before they’re confronted by another familiar foe in Chief Brian Irons, who orders Claire to get on the ground at gunpoint.
As you can see in the trailer, Resident Evil 2 looks absolutely beautiful. Never before has the Resident Evil series just looked so damn good. What’s also just as great is how horrifying the game appears to be, truly taking the series back to its survival horror roots. Despite the best intentions of Resident Evil 6, the series had just seemed to have gone too far off the rails for many fans. However, this upcoming remake seems to be doing a great job in pulling all of them back.
Resident Evil 2 will release on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on Jan. 25, 2019.
