The Castlevania animated series on Netflix is one of the best video game adaptations we have seen so far. It is based on 1989’s Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse and 2005’s Castlevania: Curse of Darkness and follows the Belmont clan’s war with Dracula for Wallachia. Now, Castlevania executive producer Adi Shankar has a new show in the works based on another hit game series, Devil May Cry.
Shankar told IGN that he acquired the rights for Devil May Cry “so the jabronis in Hollywood don’t f**k this one up, too.” We obviously can’t say we are too upset by that decision, considering how well-received Castlevania has been by fans. Shankar also says that the Devil May Cry series “will join Castlevania in what we’re now calling the bootleg multiverse.”

This is not the first time the producer has created such a universe. He released a series of six one-shot short films that are unofficial fan films/satire films featuring popular characters, such as Mr. Rogers, Dredd, and the Power Rangers, which he also called a “bootleg universe.”
The Devil May Cry video game series is developed by Capcom and created by Hideki Kamiya. It follows a demon-hunting mercenary named Dante who wants to avenge his mother’s murder. The newest and fifth installment, Devil May Cry 5, will be released on March 8, 2019. The story of the game will take place a few years after the events of Devil May Cry 2.
It has not been confirmed which streaming service or network the Devil May Cry series will be available on as of now. Although, it seems that Netflix would be an obvious choice. It is also not determined if the show will take on the game series as a whole, or specific games such as Castlevania. Either way, Devil May Cry fans can rest assured that it is in good hands.
