Wrong Turn is getting rebooted from scratch with an all-new take on the story from series creator Alan B. McElroy, and filming for the project has already begun. As reported by Cincinnati.com journalist Sheila Vilvens on Twitter, film crews are now in New Richmond, Ohio through Sept. 13 to shoot the next Wrong Turn film. With production now under way, it would seem that the project will likely be released sometime in 2020.
You can take a look at Vilvens’ tweet below.
I must have missed a memo. Just learned film crews are in the Village of New Richmond through September 13 to film scenes for a “Wrong Turn” movie series.

After writing the screenplay for the original Wrong Turn from 2003, screenwriter Alan B. McElroy had parted ways with the modern slasher movie franchise. Following his exit from the series, five sequels were made, further expanding on the mythology first established in the original film. McElroy’s return to the franchise for the Wrong Turn reboot will see the writer using the original film for inspiration while providing a completely fresh, new take on the story.
It was previously reported the new Wrong Turn will follow a group of hikers making their way through the Appalachian Trail in West Virginia. They come across a settlement of humans known as “The Foundation,” who’ve lived separately from civilization in the mountains for the past several centuries. While not the same inbred cannibals shown in previous Wrong Turn movies, chances are these new antagonists will be just as deadly – if not more so.
Stay tuned for an official release date for the new Wrong Turn. For now, you can revisit the original film by renting it on YouTube below!
