Incredibly sad news is coming in today as the legendary film director Joel Schumacher has passed away. Known for his many big screen movies like The Lost Boys among many others, Schumacher is reported to have died after a year-long battle with cancer, and his passing was confirmed by a spokesperson for the family according to AV Club. He was 80 years old.
The Lost Boys is just one of many well-known movies to be directed by the veteran filmmaker. He also directed other classics like St. Elmo’s Fire, Flatliners, A Time to Kill, Falling Down, and 8MM. Of course, Schumacher is also well known for helming the ’90s Batman movies Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. Also directing a Phantom of the Opera remake and the Jim Carrey thriller The Number 23, Schumacher would ultimately direct his final film in 2011 with Trespass, starring Nicole Kidman and Nicolas Cage. He also worked on the hit Netflix series House of Cards.

Already, social media is lighting up with messages of tribute to the legendary filmmaker. “Joel Schumacher gave us both Colin Farrell’s career and Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy. RIP to a legend,” one fan tweets. “I love Joel Schumacher movies. I’ll always love Joel Schumacher movies,” another plainly reads. Listing out many of his movies together, another tweet manages to sum up Schumacher’s work pretty well as well, reading: “The Lost Boys. Flatliners. A Time To Kill. Falling Down. Phone Booth. Veronica Guerin. And yes, even Batman & Robin. Nobody can say Joel Schumacher didn’t know how to entertain. RIP.”
