Earlier this week, the folks over at Dread Central dropped the exclusive that a long-hoped-for Thirteen Ghosts episodic series just might be headed to the screens everywhere very soon.
Of course, this little ghoul knew about it months ago and couldn’t say a damn thing!
Behind the scenes of the Screamwriter’s Podcast, co-host Patrick Mediate (Primordial Pictures) couldn’t contain his excitement when the word came down that he and co-writer Aaron McLane (SFX Supervisor, Fear the Walking Dead) would be meeting with Dark Castle Entertainment to pitch their take on the classic film.
The meeting led to a partnership that sees them working with Dark Castle to develop and pitch the series to Sony Pictures Television. This is the first project for the property in two decades. The series takes place over thirteen episodes, taking lore from both the 1960 William Castle film and the 2001 Steve Beck adaptation, along with original ideas from the creators. Each episode plans to delve into the backstory of each ghost, as has been demanded by fans ever since the DVD extras gave us a glimpse into the undead apparitions’ mortal lives.

Ashley Robinson, a co-producer of Fear the Walking Dead, is also attached to the project.
The creators noted to Dread Central:
“Every culture in the world has its ghost stories, and this re-imagining of 13 Ghosts presents an international sampling of these supernatural tales. The ghost stories within each episode will have their own stylistic look and feel that will be explored and influenced by each individual director. This makes our ghost vignettes stand out stylistically as they set the theme for each episode.”
They have also developed several tie-ins to the series, including an AR experience planned to experience exclusive easter eggs while watching each 45-minute episode and even bring the ghosts directly into your home.
While nothing has been greenlit yet (come on, Sony, we would give our souls to see this happen!), we can share these new photos from the pitch deck, shared exclusively with Horror Geek Life.
